When thinking about how identity affected the deal between the Canadians and the Chinese we can look at the differences between fabianism and individualism. Canadians are known to be highly individualistic, while the Chinese are on the complete opposite spectrum and are collectivistic. The Chinese were thinking more about the problems with the proposition as a large group and they all had to agree for it to go through and through and be accepted. In the Canadians perspective they believed that having at least one Chinese who thought their proposition was good would have given then the deal, or at least winning over the highest locate individual would have put them in the position to stria a deal.
